How to protect onions and garlic from an onion cracker

It is not advisable to deal with this pest with the help of aggressive chemicals since they most likely will not have time to weather out by the time of harvesting.

To cope with beetles on the onion bed, it is recommended to simultaneously use biological and agricultural measures:

  • strictly follow crop rotation rules;
  • regularly remove and burn weeds;
  • collect pests manually;
  • spray plantings with infusions of protective herbs (wormwood and high liveliness) while feeding the larvae.

To prepare such an infusion of high wormwood, collect leaves and tops from plants during the flowering period. Fill a bucket with a capacity of 8-10 liters of fresh herbs (or take from 700 to 800 grams of dry raw materials), pour cool clean water, and insist for a day. Next, pour the contents of the container into the pan and boil for 30 minutes. Before use in the infusion, you need to add one part of the water.

In liveliness, a high infusion is prepared from the entire aerial part of the plant, cut off in the initial phase of flowering. To do this, 1 kilogram of leaves, stems, and branches are crushed and mixed with 10 liters of standing water. The liquid is infused for two days, filtered, and immediately treated with onion-garlic plantings.

In order for drops of infusion to stick better to the leaves, it is highly advisable to add a little surfactant to it before use: for example, liquid soap, shampoo, or a little glue.

Treat your plantings with such infusions (it is advisable to alternate them) every week, and the onion cracker will forget the way to your garden!

The complex application of all the above tips gives a very good effect in terms of getting rid of an onion leaf beetle.
